Good Enough? 7 Day Devotional

This post is unlike any post I’ve had before, and it’s one I’m really excited about!

I just added a new page to the website! On this new page is a free PDF of a 7 day devotional I’ve been working to get online. The devotional is called Good Enough?, and it’s the culmination of a lot of work and prayer. I’m so happy to finally be able to share it, and I’m hopeful that it will be an encouragement to the people who read it.

If you want to jump straight to downloading and reading the devotional, click here!
If you want to hear a little more about where it came from and what it’s about, keep reading.

Where did Good Enough? come from?

The idea to write Good Enough? came after a conversation with a long-time friend who had real questions about whether or not God could really love them. They felt that they were a disappointment to themselves and the people around them, so they must be a disappointment to God. They didn’t feel they were good enough to deserve God’s love.

I’ve worked in the local church for nearly a decade, and this feeling isn’t unique to that friend. Some people may word it differently – maybe you’ve known somebody who’s said the old, “The church roof will cave in if I go there!” That’s the same sentiment, played out with a little more bravado. Many people really aren’t sure how God could accept them. I understand where they’re coming from, because I was the same way.

What those people don’t know, what I didn’t know, is that the sentiment that God has no reason to accept us is exactly what makes grace so beautiful.

We really have done wrong. We really have missed it. We really have contributed to making the world more hellish for somebody at some time because of our own greed or pride or self-righteousness, or because of our general lack of care about those outside our group, our family, our tribe. Nobody really has to tell us that. We know it. And God knows it. But God loves us anyways.

That’s what the death of Jesus was all about: God’s love for His fallen children.

And that’s what this devotional is all about.

What is Good Enough? about?

It’s about grace. It’s about the astounding truth of a perfect God who chases down imperfect people to love them and change them from the inside out. It’s about a God who sees the same Hell on earth we see all around us, and who challenges us to see our own contribution to it. It’s about a God who loves us enough to help us change into the kind of people who make the world look more like Heaven instead. It changes the question from, “Am I good enough?” and instead asks, “Is Christ good enough?” And I believe that He is.

So, if you’re asking that question, this devotional is for you.

However, maybe you’re not somebody who’s asking that question. I hope you’ll add this little devotional booklet to your reading list anyways. I believe at the very least that it’s a reminder of the grace of God and of His calling on your life to live in a way that gives life to the people around you.

A few favors to ask…

No matter who you are, I would like to ask you two things as you read this devotional.

  1. Really think about what it says.
Read the scripture references. Dissect the content. Think about the implications for the way you live. Maybe it will be freeing and encouraging and life changing. Or maybe you’ll think I’m full of it. I’m okay either way as long as you don’t just skim through and then toss it in the trash can. If you’ve read this far, and if you take the time to download and read the devotional, maybe there’s a reason. Let it speak to you.
  2. Share it with somebody who needs it.
Most of us know somebody who struggles with this question. If not, then we probably know somebody who will appreciate the reminder of God’s grace that this devotional contains. Share the link with them. It’s free, and maybe it’ll change the way they look at themselves, the way they look at God, and they way they think God looks at them.

Thanks for taking the time to read through this post, and I hope you’ll download the devotional and give it a read (and a share) as well!
